Wellington Works

What is Wellington Works?
Wellington Works is a campaign by Unions Wellington—the local affiliate of the New Zealand
Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU)—dedicated to putting workers, Wellingtonians and the spirit
of public service back at the centre of local public services in Wellington city.
By advocating for returning the delivery of local services from private contractors to directly
employed council workers, the Wellington Works campaign aims to ensure higher standards of
service delivery, improved job security and fairer wages for workers, while increasing
democratic accountability and long-term cost-effectiveness for the city’s residents and
ratepayers.

Learn about the pillaging of our public purse, and the opportunity for workers and the community to have these services run by the council,  rather than remaining at the mercy of private companies.

Read our plan that provides a roadmap for the council to bring many of its key services back in-house over time (not a report done by an outsourced consultant, we can assure you).

Importantly, show up and support our campaigna and demonstrate to local politicians that union members and the community want to see action, and will help support the council to continue pursuing its insourcing agenda for key contracts.

We are releasing our report ‘It’s time for Wellington Works’ on Wednesday, 6 May at 6 pm at Newtown School. Register here.
